Law enforcement officers escort Teamsters Union drivers across the Bay Bridge hauling Tahoe snow.

Teamsters Union drivers trekked from Lake Tahoe to San Francisco on Wednesday morning hauling a ton of snow for a community holiday party at a fire station in the city, officials said.

Law enforcement officers escorted the drivers across the Bay Bridge at 7 a.m., with 15 cubic yards of snow weighing about 1 ton divided between two dump trucks, said Lt. Jonathan Baxter of the San Francisco Fire Department.

The California Highway Patrol, which provided escort, said the convoy got slowed down in commute traffic on the bridge but made it safely to its destination at the Fire Department’s Bureau of Equipment station on 25th Street.

Fire Department officials said in a news release that they wanted to “bring some holiday spirit, joy, and good tidings to San Francisco.”

The snow will be used for the department’s holiday station decoration competition, said Baxter.

The fire station, at 2501 25th St., also staged a snow-themed block party on Wednesday evening for the community. Attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate at the 7 p.m.event.
